I would have posted this in medication forum, but it’s more appropriate for the EDS think tank.

I started PM back in December. First, I was the Mylan brand 12mcg/hr Fentanyl Patches. I had three patches that came off to early back in December. However, I blame my inexperience, and unfortunate placement for those patches. This month my dosage increased to 25mcg/hr, and I finally started to feel relief from the bodily nightmare that is my life. Unfortunately, the pharmacy switched me to Mallinckrodt band. It worked better at administering the fentanyl, but it doesn’t stay on my skin for more than 48hrs (between 36-48hrs after applying it, the patch it will fail).

Apparently Mylan fentanyl patches are smaller in general, I think that plays a part as to why I had less problems with them. I’ve been on a nicotine patches before, and when I had to cut it half (to cut the dosage in half, and yes they were the ones could safely do that), the patch would stay on longer. Also, the Mallinckrodt patches have much thinner adhesive layer; the Mylan ones were almost all adhesive. And another thing is that, the more I am physically active, the sooner that patch will fall off.

Medical patch covers

So I’ve tried medical tape on the edges, and again, I think that due to a larger surface area and that the medical tape adhesives are not being strong enough, the patch came off even quicker. Mylan offers free covers for the patch, which supposedly keeps in place longer, but you need a number off the Rx box to get it. I’m looking into getting a box Tegaderm (the clear adhesive patches hospitals use over IV sites to keep them in place) to see if that's potential solution.

Fentanyl Patch Dosage Amounts

I think ultimately, it must have something to do with my hyperelastic skin, and my wonderful excessive skin folds situation. What worries me the most is, I don’t know if the PMC is going to understand my situation.

Is someone else is more experienced with this? Could you give me some insight, and advice?

With the problems that I am having, should I request to get off the patches all together?
