Game Description & Reviews:

OverviewIn his second paper-themed adventure, Mario must once again rescue the captured princess while he foils the X-Nauts' plans. The Thousand-Year Door features a turn-based battle system with real-time elements.
KingDario rates this game: 5/5

One of the very best games the Gamecube ever saw, and one of my personal favorites. You play as Mario and his gang of friends working together in turn based combat to defeat the new cast of enemies this game boast. Heavily recommend this title to anyone who is looking to emulate GCN games or is just a Mario fan, or a RPG fan too.

Anonymous rates this game: 4/5

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (TTYD) is the story of Mario as he (once again) must go questing in search of Princess Peach and the treasure of the Crystal Stars. The twist this time however, is that Bowser is innocent, and that the evil X-Naut leader has taken her. Mario must battle through 7 different parts of the map, everywhere from a tropical island to a wrestling ring. Joining him in this task are a Koopa, a Goomba, and many other memorable characters; each with his (or her) unique abilities. Can you rescue the Princess in time? Will Mario find the treasure before the dastardly X-Naut army?

Brendoge rates this game: 5/5

Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door formulates together a fusion of developed gameplay style that remains unique for an RPG, stunning graphics and excellent music and sound effects, a game that is quality on all fours. A quintessential game set in the Mario universe, which is although paper - is never paper thin, just fantastic!
Princess Peach has gone missing to no surprise, and it's up to Mario to find her. She was last seen in Rogueport, a seedy and mysterious coastal town far from the familiar reaches of the Mushroom Kingdom. Which serves as the game's core location. Branching out from there Mario will gradually discover its secrets as he attempts to decipher a treasure map Princess Peach left in his care. The quest develops to involve the search for seven crystal stars, each one a powerful artifact. The stars are all hidden away in different portions of the world. So, in turn, the process of finding each one is like a unique and self-contained storyline.
Mario will meet some colorful new friends and foes and solve various puzzles using his ever-growing number of special abilities among some of the most innovative designs and ideas to ever come out of gaming. So do yourself a favor, drop what you're playing while it's hot and play this RPG masterpiece!

Fernando, the whore says:

I find this game quite exhilerating. It far surpasses any Paper Mario game to the max. It is undoubtfully addictive and a classic. This game will blow you mind with the mixed graphics such as 3D surroundings and 2D chaacters that look 3D in a sense. I find the texture of the colours all too orgasmic to say, but, you must play to know the full pleasure that arrives in life. If you play this game, you will not regret it. It will grow with you and make you want to play it all the time. I give it a 5/5 + 9000!

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is simply none other then an amazing game. It is a 3D world with with the familiar cast of 2D characters we all know and love; Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and, of course, any Mario game wouldn't be comeplete without Bowser.
Paper Mario TTYD, as I abbreviate it, takes everything of it's predecessor Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64 and makes it better in every aspect. Controls, replayability, characters, well, everything. The player starts off the story in a way fashionable to the first, with Luigi and Mario recieving a letter from Princess Peach, informing them that she has a treasure map, as shown in the game's introduction prior to the title screen.
Along the way, Mario will gain a party of humorous and lovable partners, such as the shy koopa, Koops, or the lovesick Flurrie. They can gain ablities and attacks as well as Mario can and are a essential part for helping you take down enemies easier.
Essentially, there are a number of dungeons, with their own backstory and twists, characters, and the Crystal Star, to open the Thousand Year Door to find the legendary treasure that sleeps within.
I was very satisfied with this game and I hope Nintendo produces another one with the same quirks and battle system us Paper Mario fans deserve.

The following is a bestiary for all 124 enemies as encountered in the game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Please note that some of these enemies are variations of a single enemy, were fought in a grouped-battle, or had several battles where the enemy had a different stat-spread or form. For convenience, these variations are listed as separate enemies. This bestiary also serves as the Tattle Log, providing all Tattle information provided by Goombella and records of enemies in the Tattle Log in-game. All enemies are listed according to the Tattle Log in the game.

Legend[edit]

  • Name: The name of the enemy.
    • Normal: Enemy. (Ex: Goomba)
    • Bold: Boss. (Ex: Sir Grodus)
    • Underline: Support enemy/object/part. (Ex: Kammy Koopa)
  • HP: The enemy's HP at the start of the battle.
  • Attack: The enemy's general attack power, as listed in Goombella's Tattle. Some enemies have several attacks that inflict different attack powers.
  • Defense: The enemy's defense.
  • Level: The enemy's level. If the enemy's level exceeds Mario's level, Mario will earn additionalStar Points from it.
  • Exp. points: The basic amount of EXP gained from the enemy (having a lower level than the enemy increases the EXP gained).
  • Status Ailments: The chances of the enemy being afflicted with a status effect successfully.
    • Sleep?: The chances of the enemy falling asleep with Sleepy Sheep or Sleep Stomp.
    • Dizzy?: The chances of the enemy becoming dizzy with Dizzy Dial, or Tease.
    • Confuse?: The chances of the enemy becoming confused with Infatuate, Ruin Powder, or Head Rattle
    • Shrink?: The chances of the enemy becoming shrunk with Shrink Stomp, Mini-Egg, or Mini Mr. Mini.
    • Stop?: The chances of the enemy becoming immobilized with Stop Watch or Emerald Star's Clock Out.
    • Soft?: The chances of the enemy becoming softened with Mr. Softener or Soft Stomp.
    • Burn?: The chances of the enemy becoming burned with Shade Fist, Fiery Jinx or Fire Drive.
    • Freeze?: The chances of the enemy becoming frozen with Ice Storm or Ice Smash.
  • Fright?: The chances of the enemy running away with the Fright Mask.
  • Gale Force?: The chances of the enemy being blown away from the battlefield with Flurrie's Gale Force.
  • KO?: The chances of the enemy being instantly defeated with Garnet Star's Showstopper
Notes on Enemies
  • As the tattle log uses a large font, some enemies use initials for parts of their name (i.e Bombshell Bill Blaster -> B. Bill Blaster), initials aren't used here.
  • The stats information ('Max HP is 4, Attack is 2 and Defense is 1') is missing in the Koopa Troopa's Tattle.
  • The information for Sky-Blue Spiny is incorrect because they do not spawn from a pipe thrown by the Dark Lakitu, but are instead thrown just like their red counterparts. The mistake was likely a result of mistranslating 'Paipo,' the Japanese name for Spiny Eggs.
  • In some older versions of the game (such as the NTSC-U version), Rawk Hawk is incorrectly listed as having 3 attack and 1 defense, and the Red Spike Top is incorrectly listed as having 5 defense. These errors were corrected for later releases, such as the PAL version.
  • Any fire based enemy will regain HP when attacked by a fire-based move (e.g. Vivian's fire moves, or a Fire Flower), and possibly even multiply. Similarly, any ice based enemy (e.g. Ice Puffs or Frost Piranhas) will regain HP when hit by an Ice Storm or ice based attack, but thunder based enemies are a special case: Dark Puffs will not be healed by a Thunder Bolt or a Thunder Rage; they will take damage as normal, but Ruff Puffs will be healed. A Frost Piranha's bite is not considered an ice-based attack - it is a non-elemental attack that can inflict Frozen. This can be observed if they are Confused; they will still damage each other.
  • Fuzzies, Swoopulas, Swampires, Bandits, Big Bandits, and Badge Bandits cannot steal HP or items if the player wears Zap Tap.
  • If Bulky Bob-ombs or Bob-ulks are attacked with an explosion, lightning or any fire-based attack except Shade Fist, it will set off a chain reaction of explosions. Shade Fist is an exception because it is not actually a fire-based attack - it is a non-elemental attack that causes the Burn status if the Action Command is correctly performed. This Burn status, however, will set off the explosion at the end of the turn.

TattleThat's a Spiky Goomba. ...A spiky-headed Goomba. What a creative name. That spike is super-pointy, so it's better to hit it with a hammer than jump on it. Maximum HP is 2, Attack is 2, and Defense is 0. The addition of the spike means you'll hurt your feet if you jump on it. Duh!

TattleThat's a Shady Paratroopa. It's a Shady Koopa with wings, obviously. Max HP is 8, Attack is 3, and Defense is 1. Knock off its wings and it's a Shady Koopa. Unlike typical Koopas and Paratroopas, its Attack jumps when it flips up off its back. This also says it has a move that hits you and your ally at once. Is that possible? Uh... It's a bit tougher than a regular Koopa, so you won't be able to beat it easily. But, it DOES have the same weakness as a regular Koopa. Flip it over and it's helpless. TattleThat's a Koopatrol. A Koopa Troopa who protects himself with spiked armor. Max HP is 6, Attack is 4, and Defense is 2. It attacks with its shell and with its head, then sometimes charges up for a fierce move. Plus, if you take too long to win, it'll call reinforcements. Yeah, sorta gnarly, huh? 122LogShe's one of the Shadow Sirens, which makes her Beldam's younger sister. She has strong Attack power, so it might be best to defeat her first.
TattleThat's Marilyn. She's a Shadow Siren, Beldam's younger sister. Max HP is 12, Attack is 2, and Defense is 0. She charges up her attacks occasionally. Says here she's the toughest of the sisters, so it might be best to defeat her first, huh? Other than that, she doesn't have any particularly outstanding characteristics.

122LogBeldam's sister, and therefore one of the Shadow Sirens. Her Attack is high, so take her out first.
TattleThat's Marilyn. She's Beldam's sister, another one of the Shadow Sirens. Max HP is 40, Attack is 7, and Defense is 0. She'll attack you directly or use lightning. She also saves up energy for a big attack sometimes. So long as you avoid the brunt of her attacks, she shouldn't be too tough...

123LogOne of the Shadow Sirens and Beldam's youngest sister. She's so cute, she's able to infatuate anyone.
TattleThat's Vivian. She's the youngest of the three Shadow Sirens. Max HP is 10, Attack is 1, and Defense is 0. She doesn't seem all that noteworthy. Uh... She is kinda cute, I guess... She might even be cuter than I am... I guess... ...Uh... What am I thinking?

124LogThe demon who possessed Peach. She tried to cast the world into darkness, but Mario whipped her butt good. And Peach is back to normal, thank goodness!
TattleOmigosh, what happened? I can't believe Peach got possessed! That's AWFUL! Now she's... the Shadow Queen. The demon that destroyed this town 1,000 years ago. Max HP is 150, Attack is 7, and Defense is 0. She'll unleash big lightning attacks. She'll also use magic to raise Attack and Defense, or to absorb HP... She might even try to drag us into the darkness... I don't feel good about attacking Peach, but we have to do SOMETHING! Don't think of it as Peach! We just have to fight to the end! C'MON!!!

124LogThe demon who possessed Peach. She tried to cast the world into darkness, but Mario whipped her butt good. And Peach is back to normal, thank goodness!
TattleThat's the Shadow Queen! Wow, she's scary... but we gotta hold our ground! Max HP is 150, Attack is 7, and Defense is 1. She'll use lightning magic and boost her own Attack and Defense power. And, if she uses her breath on us, we could be poisoned, confused, or lose power-ups! But...the worst is when she saves energy for a big attack! That... is... GNARLY! We'd do best to just avoid it by hiding in the shadows with Vivian, I think. Boy, and not only is her body scary, but her hands are pretty mean, as well. She has several attack patterns, so watch closely to see what's coming! Now, Mario! Let's do it! This is it, our final battle! Let's give it all we've got!
